Camacho family Rosalinda and Jesus Camacho have two children, Jesus, 5, and Anahy age 2. The Camacho family have lived in their Habitat home for 3 1/2 years. The building process took seven months. The foundation was poured in November 2000 and they moved in on May 15th, 2001. Rosalinda and Jesus both contributed work toward their required sweat equity. It was difficult at first because their son Jesus was only 2 years old and had to be left with a sitter while they worked. Rosalinda recalls: "We put in insulation on Valentines Day. Not such a romantic activity. It was very itchy." Jesus enjoyed the process of putting on the siding, and Rosalinda thought painting was the most rewarding part because it was one of the final chores. Before moving into their home, the Camacho's lived with Rosalinda's family. Once they had their own home, Rosalinda says the house meant, "We could be a family. We all eat here. We do our yard work together...it is ours." The Camacho's feel that the sweat equity they put into the house helps now because they know how things were built at each stage, helping when things need attention or repair. Jesus works long hours for Baker Rock and Rosalinda works for Jay and Laura Finley and they have plans for the future: there is an empty bedroom - room for one more? Advice for waiting Habitat families is: "Patience. It seems like moving day will never come, and then it does."
